A clearer decision path

Know what to ask
before you decide.

Understand how embryo testing fits into an IVF pathway, what may affect the timeline and which questions deserve a case-specific answer.

01

PGT begins with a defined clinical question

PGT-A, PGT-M and PGT-SR are different testing pathways. The appropriate discussion depends on the patient history, genetic information, embryo availability and how a result could affect a clinical decision.

  • PGT-A: chromosome-number information
  • PGT-M: a known single-gene condition
  • PGT-SR: a documented chromosome structural rearrangement
02

The pathway usually extends beyond egg retrieval

An IVF with PGT pathway may include stimulation, retrieval, IVF or ICSI, embryo culture, biopsy, vitrification, laboratory analysis and a later frozen embryo transfer. Not every retrieved egg becomes an embryo suitable for biopsy, and no test guarantees a future outcome.

03

Costs depend on more than one test fee

Ask how biopsy, testing, embryo number, transport between laboratories, freezing, storage, genetic counselling, repeat or inconclusive testing and a later transfer are quoted.

  • Testing setup and case preparation
  • Per-embryo or bundled laboratory fees
  • Freezing and storage
  • Transfer-cycle medication and monitoring
  • Policies for mosaic or no-result findings
04

Plan the results conversation before testing

Before consent, ask which result categories may be reported, who explains them and how clinic policy treats mosaic, inconclusive or no-result embryos. Complex decisions may require genetic counselling.

01

Clinical indication

Connect the proposed test to a specific question, not a generic package.

02

Laboratory pathway

Know where biopsy and testing occur and how results are reported.

03

Informed decisions

Discuss limitations, alternatives and possible result categories before testing.
