before you decide.

Learn why clinic percentages are difficult to compare and which questions make the data more meaningful.

01

The denominator changes the answer

A percentage may be reported per cycle started, retrieval, transfer or embryo transfer. It may describe pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy or live birth. These measures are not interchangeable.

02

Patient groups are not identical

Age, diagnosis, ovarian reserve, sperm factors, prior treatment, embryo availability, use of donor material and clinic acceptance policies can change the patient population behind a published figure.

03

Questions to ask

Request the reporting period, patient group, outcome definition, denominator and whether the figure is independently reported or audited.

  • Is this per cycle, retrieval or transfer?
  • Is the outcome pregnancy or live birth?
  • Which age group does it cover?
  • Are cancelled cycles included?
  • Does the figure apply to patients like us?

Next step

Turn your research into better questions.

Prepare a concise case summary, then compare case-specific clinical proposals rather than relying on general package claims.
