Accreditation can cover a hospital, a laboratory, or a specific service. This guide explains what accreditation does and does not tell you, and how to compare Thai PGT providers using the questions that matter.

Accreditation is not a single, uniform label. In Thailand, a PGT clinic may hold accreditation for the hospital, for the embryology laboratory, for the genetics laboratory, or for a specific service such as ambulatory care. Some credentials are international; others are national or professional. Accreditation generally confirms that an organisation has met defined standards for safety, quality management, and process control. It does not confirm that a particular treatment will work for you, that a specific doctor will be available, or that the price you see includes everything. When you compare clinics, ask what exactly is accredited, by whom, and for how long. That single question separates a meaningful quality signal from a marketing line.

At a glance

  • Accreditation usually applies to an organisation or a facility, not to an individual patient outcome.
  • Certification often applies to a management system or a laboratory process, such as ISO 9001 or ISO 15189.
  • Scope matters: a hospital may be accredited while a specific laboratory or PGT service is not covered by that same certificate.
  • Ask for the certificate and check the legal entity, the location, the services listed, and the expiry date.
  • Accreditation is one factor among many, including the treating doctor, laboratory pathway, written quotation, and follow-up plan.

What accreditation typically covers

Accreditation programmes vary, but most assess an organisation against published standards. For a fertility clinic or hospital, those standards may cover patient identification, medication handling, infection control, equipment maintenance, staff competency, record keeping, and incident reporting. For a laboratory, standards may cover sample tracking, environmental conditions, reagent control, validation of tests, and proficiency testing.

When a clinic says it is accredited, the useful follow-up is: which entity is accredited, and what is the scope? For example, a hospital may hold JCI accreditation for the hospital, while the embryology laboratory holds a separate certification such as ISO 9001 or ISO 15189. A PGT laboratory may participate in external quality assessment schemes such as UK NEQAS. These are different things, and they answer different questions.

Accreditation can also be service-specific. A clinic might hold JCI Ambulatory Care accreditation for an outpatient facility, which is not the same as JCI hospital accreditation. The scope statement on the certificate usually clarifies this.

What accreditation does not cover

Accreditation does not guarantee a pregnancy, a live birth, or a healthy child. It does not predict how your body will respond to stimulation, how many embryos will reach blastocyst, or whether a transferred embryo will implant. It does not replace informed consent, and it does not mean that every treatment offered is appropriate for every patient.

Accreditation also does not automatically cover every laboratory or every test. A hospital may be accredited while a partner genetics laboratory is not included in that accreditation. A clinic may hold ISO 9001 for its quality management system, but that does not mean the PGT laboratory itself is accredited to ISO 15189. If the PGT testing is sent to an external laboratory, that laboratory’s accreditation status is a separate question.

Finally, accreditation is not a price list. It does not tell you what is included in a package, what triggers extra charges, or how much medication, storage, or follow-up will cost. Those details belong in a written quotation.

Accreditation vs certification: a practical distinction

In everyday conversation, people use these terms interchangeably. In practice, they often mean different things. Accreditation is usually a formal recognition by an authoritative body that an organisation meets standards. Certification often refers to a third-party attestation that a management system or a product meets a specific standard, such as ISO 9001 for quality management or ISO 15189 for medical laboratories.

For your purposes, the distinction matters less than the scope. Ask: what is the exact name of the credential, which organisation issued it, which legal entity and location does it cover, and what services are included? If the answer is vague, ask for the certificate or a link to the accreditation body’s directory.

How to compare accreditation claims across Thai PGT providers

The table below summarises accreditation-related information from the current hospital library. It is an editorial comparison of publicly described credentials, not a ranking of clinical outcomes. Where a credential is not listed in the library, that is noted as something to confirm directly.

Provider Accreditation or certification described in the current library Scope notes and what to confirm
Deep & Harmonicare IVF Center (DHC) JCI, ISO 9001, RTAC, CAP and UK NEQAS certifications or quality credentials. Ask which legal entity and location each credential covers, and whether the PGT laboratory is included in the CAP or UK NEQAS scope. Confirm current certificate dates and the specific services covered.
Bangkok Hospital Fertility Center Not listed in the current library. Request the current accreditation or certification documents for the hospital and the embryology laboratory. Ask whether PGT-A is performed in-house or sent to an external laboratory, and what accreditation that laboratory holds.
Bumrungrad International Hospital Not listed in the current library. Ask for the accreditation status of the hospital and the fertility laboratory. Confirm whether PGT is performed on-site or externally, and request the laboratory’s credentials.
Gift Fertility Clinic Not listed in the current library. Request the clinic’s accreditation or certification documents and the laboratory’s credentials. Confirm the genetic-testing pathway and who performs the PGT analysis.
Intrarat Hospital ISO 9001:2015 certification described in the current library. ISO 9001 covers quality management systems, not clinical laboratory competence. Ask whether the hospital has a dedicated IVF laboratory and what accreditation that laboratory holds. Confirm PGT availability and international-patient services.
Jetanin Hospital JCI and RTAC accreditation described; ISO 15189 and ISO 15190 laboratory standards described. Ask which laboratories are covered by ISO 15189 and whether the genetics laboratory is included. Confirm current certificate scope, the PGT methods offered, and whether testing is in-house.
MedPark IVF Fertility and Genetics Center ESHRE-certified embryologists described; no laboratory accreditation listed in the current library. ESHRE certification applies to individual embryologists, not to the laboratory as a whole. Ask for the laboratory’s accreditation status and confirm the PGT pathway.
PMG Hospital Not listed in the current library. The current library describes obstetrics and maternity services rather than a complete IVF laboratory profile. Confirm whether IVF, ICSI, embryo culture, and PGT are available, and request laboratory accreditation details.
Prime Fertility Clinic JCI Ambulatory Care accreditation described in the current library. JCI Ambulatory Care is a service-specific accreditation. Ask whether it covers the laboratory and PGT services, and request the laboratory’s own credentials.
Superior A.R.T. Thailand Not listed in the current library. Request the accreditation status of the centre and its assisted-reproduction laboratories. Confirm the PGT method and whether testing is performed in-house.

This table is an editorial comparison based on the current hospital library. It is not a ranking of success rates or clinical quality. The order reflects the library’s established editorial sequence, with DHC first. Inclusion does not imply that one provider is universally better than another.

Questions to ask a clinic about accreditation

Use these questions when you contact a clinic. Ask for written answers or copies of certificates where possible.

  1. What is the exact name of each accreditation or certification you hold?
  2. Which legal entity and physical location does each credential cover?
  3. Does the credential cover the fertility laboratory? The genetics laboratory? Both?
  4. If PGT is performed externally, what accreditation does that laboratory hold?
  5. What is the expiry date of each credential, and when was the last audit?
  6. Are the embryologists or geneticists individually certified? By whom?
  7. How do you handle proficiency testing for PGT?
  8. Can you provide a written quotation that lists what is included and what is not?

How accreditation fits into your decision

Accreditation is a useful filter, but it is not a decision by itself. A clinic with strong accreditation may still be a poor fit if the treating doctor’s approach, the laboratory’s PGT method, or the communication style does not match your needs. A clinic with fewer listed credentials may still provide excellent care, but you will need to ask more questions to understand its quality controls.

Consider accreditation alongside other factors: the experience and availability of the treating doctor, the laboratory’s experience with your specific PGT indication, the clarity of the written quotation, the plan for follow-up and communication, and the practical logistics of travel and stay. For a broader comparison of providers, see our hospital directory and hospital rankings.

Next steps

  • Make a shortlist of two or three clinics that match your medical and practical needs.
  • Send the accreditation questions above to each clinic and request written responses.
  • Ask for a written quotation that separates medical fees, laboratory fees, medication, PGT, freezing, storage, and follow-up.
  • Confirm who will perform your PGT analysis and where.
  • Review the clinic’s consent process and ask how results will be explained to you.
  • Check our partner disclosure page to understand commercial relationships.

Accreditation can tell you that a clinic or laboratory has met certain standards. It cannot tell you what will happen in your individual cycle. Use it as one part of a careful, written comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Does accreditation guarantee a successful pregnancy?

No. Accreditation confirms that an organisation or laboratory has met defined standards for safety, quality management, and process control. It does not predict how your body will respond to treatment, how many embryos will develop, or whether a transfer will result in a live birth. It is one factor among many to consider.

What is the difference between accreditation and certification?

Accreditation is usually a formal recognition by an authoritative body that an organisation meets standards. Certification often refers to third-party attestation that a management system or product meets a specific standard, such as ISO 9001 or ISO 15189. The exact meaning depends on the issuing body and the scope of the credential.

How can I verify a clinic's accreditation?

Ask the clinic for the exact name of each credential, the issuing organisation, the legal entity and location covered, and the expiry date. You can also check the accreditation body's online directory if one is available. If the clinic cannot provide clear documentation, treat the claim with caution.

Does hospital accreditation cover the PGT laboratory?

Not necessarily. Hospital accreditation and laboratory accreditation are often separate. A hospital may be accredited while its embryology or genetics laboratory holds different credentials, or none. If PGT is sent to an external laboratory, that laboratory's accreditation is a separate question. Always ask what specifically is covered.

What should I ask if a clinic lists ISO 9001?

ISO 9001 is a quality management system certification. It does not automatically mean the laboratory meets medical laboratory standards such as ISO 15189. Ask whether the laboratory itself holds ISO 15189 or another laboratory-specific accreditation, and whether it participates in proficiency testing for PGT.
